Born in the Mountains, Grown by the Sea
In 2003, we took a new step and created Mammis Apartments — a space where we could welcome guests in a more personal way. That’s us, brothers Yannis and Sotiris Mammis.
Our roots lie in the mountains of nearby Kos, where our grandfather and father were shepherds. After moving to the village of Pali on the island of Nisyros, our family ran a small taverna right on the harbor for over a decade, followed by a lively café called Falimento. Early each morning, our mother Paraskevi would serve coffee there, while the locals gathered to talk — and by night, it became a cozy bar with Sotiris behind the counter, setting the mood with good music.
Mammis Apartments grew out of this spirit: a place shaped by warmth, openness, and a love for simple, good moments. Some of our guests have returned every year for two decades — now joined by their children and grandchildren. Over time, these encounters have grown into friendships.
In the garden, perhaps the only roses on Nisyros bloom — the favorite flower of our late mother, and a quiet reminder of her presence.
